In this version of Logic, we now have some options we didn’t have before. What I am referring to is the ability to create takes. In the old days, I had to create multiple tracks. Now you can simply set the song to loop and record the part you wish to record in as many takes as you want. The downside to this…at least for me…is that they don’t always line up as I’m playing to a drum loop for the guitar parts which serve as the foundation to my songs. So, for my initial tracks I like to record two tracks at a time, then create new tracks to repeat it. Continue reading ‘Laying down Guitar Tracks’
Laying down Guitar Tracks
The very first tracks I record in my Home Recording Studio are what I like to call control tracks. For the control track, we will ignore the standard guitar mic set-up…you can use it, but you won’t be able to hear the voice as well. For this, I usually set-up one microphone, placed at vocal level. The Neumann 49 picks up both the vocal and guitar nicely. The downside of this technique is one has no control over the vocal or guitar separately. But that shouldn’t matter as it is a control track and will be used to create a drum loop. Continue reading ‘How to create a Control Track using drum loops in Logic 8′

Before I get into how I place microphones when recording, I’d like to write about my instruments. I believe that the quality of the instruments…and talent of musician…can affect the end product of the recording. Let’s focus on the instruments.
What goes in…comes out. The point is that if the sound quality of your instrument isn’t up to snuff, no matter how good your microphones are, you’ll end up with a poorer quality recording. So…use the best quality instruments you can afford to help your home guitar recording software to record music. Don’t go breaking the bank, but if you’re serious about this, you should consider the alternatives out there. Continue reading ‘Quality of Recording is affected by quality of Instruments…’
Before I get into the steps I take to use Logic 8, my music recording software I use to record music, I feel I should take a moment to discuss the importance of room acoustics.
Sound reverberates (bounces around) the room you’re in. When you’re trying to record your music, it is best to get rid of this unwanted sound as it is detrimental to accurate recording, monitoring, and mixing. Continue reading ‘Room Acoustics For Home Recording’
Home Audio Recording Tools
Today I’m going to write about the tools needed to produce music in your Home Recording Studio for multitrack studio recording. Some call the effort sequencing or digital audio recording at a DAW (digital audio workstation). Continue reading ‘Home Audio Recording Tools’
I love music. Several years ago I started on an adventure and bought a program called “Emagic”. I needed software to help me record what I was creating with my guitar. Since then, the program has improved greatly, the latest, Logic 8, being a superb tool for a Home Recording Studio to lay tracks and embellish the sounds via all the great tools available.
